I had the opportunity to interview my best friend, business partner, and fellow Schitt's Creek enthusiast. Wedding day makeup is, in my opinion, one of the most important things! It's. Your. Face! I mean, cmon girl. That is everything. So im here to bring you some of the best in the industry - to get to know them, know their tips, tricks and advice for your big day <3
What is one thing every bride needs?
I think that every bride needs a tall glass of wine with every appointment, haha Just Kidding! I do think that it depends on that bride. Some are very organized and have things under control and some need a little more guidance... but I do feel that keeping an open mind and trusting you vendors is something that is very important. Your vendors have been chosen for a reason, you love them and their work and are excited to work with them. They want to make your day magical and everything you dreamed of. By being open to them it will take a huge weight off your shoulders.
What should a client know before meeting you?
By this point we have already met via phone and we are planning to do your trial. Having pictures handy will allow our time together to be the most productive. It allows me to see what you love and how your vision is. Another thing is to be prepared for open and honest communication. I want us to be able to communicate with one another. I will never get upset or judge you for telling me your honest thoughts. We will work together to perfect your look.
What is your most important tip for a bride?
Ahhh, I can go two ways here.
The first would be skincare. Yes, skincare is one of those things that I feel very strongly about. You want your face to look the absolute best that it can for the wedding. how to do that would be getting on a good skincare system. Yes, we can take care of a lot of skin conditions with makeup coverage but the truth is the better your skin is without makeup the better it will look with makeup. I like to work with my brides on identifying the concerns and needs and then helping them pick the right products for them.
The other important tip I like to give is to be true to who you are. When you start to plan your wedding you will end up getting everyone and their friends sisters cousins aunt to give you an opinion on what you should do. Some of those tips and advice can definitely be helpful. When it comes to certain appointments try to minimize the outside "noise". go with your guy and what feels right to you. at the end of the day this wedding is about you and your fiancé. The moment in time is very special to you both so enjoy it and do what's best for you both.
Are there any trends you are loving these days? Anything you would leave behind?
Clean and flawlesss skin has been very in. The skin is the majority of your face so keeping it flawless and natural looking allows for you to really do whatever you want for eyes and lips. I dont really feel that any trend should be left behind. I think that trends are normal for some people and can be unique to women making them feel beautiful. Truthfully, who am I to say what a person should or shouldn't do. If someone never wears makeup and is questioning whether or not to do something trendy at that point I may guide them to stick with something a little more timeless so they feel more like themselves.
What is your favorite past time - hobby?
Im not sure if this counts as a hobby but I really love all DIY projects. Im usually always doing something around the house or shall I say "attempting" to do things, lol. I love being hands on and being able to work with my hands. It allows me to be creative and have fun at the same time.
If you could use one lip color for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Ahhh, this one is so tough because I love so many colors. But if I had to choose just one! I'd go for a neutral color that I can wear with any look. Whether its a dramatic smokey or soft natural look. One of my favorite is Kim K by Charlotte Tillbury.
